Written by my buddy Dean Clark. It’s the story about passing of generations. He wrote it about his dad a few years after his untimely passing. It’s such a beautiful song. Thanks Dean for letting me record this eloquent gem.

Lyrics

I remember dad taking me to work with him
climbing the ladder, the view took my breath away
boyhood wonder, hot sun in a deep blue sky
finding my rhythm with the hammer and the nail

Now I'm here again
30 long years since then
back up on this roof
The same one that we put on back then
Dad layed those shingles down I'll have to tear them up now
and with every nail that I pull out, I'll be letting go.

blistered fingers, oatmeal cookies at coffeetime
we worked for hours and that sun seemed to move so slow
driving home dad took me up on his knee
I'd take the wheel, these things mom didn't need to know

It's a changing of the guard, passing of a generation
and now I'm picking up these tools giving shelter and protection
but it came too soon, how can I fill his shoes

That roof has served it's time
and now my boys and I
will tear that old roof off and put the new roof on
